William Buick: Who is He?

There have been several noteworthy jockeys who have competed at the top level of racing and have since carved a name for themselves as one of the all-time greats and most respected of their generation, with Norwegian-born rider William Buick also looking to put his name amongst the most elite alumni with another major championship winning display.

Born in the Norwegian capital of Oslo back in July of 1988, William Buick has quickly emerged as one of the best jockeys in the world today as he has claimed several prestigious accolades that very few across history have been capable in replicating.

Buick has remained a staple within the racing scene and is now one of the most widely respected jockeys who still compete today due to his prior years of success at numerous British and International racing events. Buick was regularly out with his father and younger brothers riding horses during the early hours of the day before heading abroad to the UK where he would complete his education and become an apprentice jockey.

His very first taste for professional racing as a jockey came in 2006 at just 18 years of age as he suited up at the Brighton racecourse with his trainer Andrew Balding where he would take command of Tiny Tim.

Buick’s very first professional win came a short while later that same year on the Paul D’Arcy before winning another ten separate times before the end of the year which earned him great praise from Ian Balding who claimed that Buick was one of the very best apprentices that he has ever worked with.

  • Becoming a fan favorite and racing legend:

Following his first few years of success back in 2006, Buick would soon claim numerous other incredible honors across the British and International racing scene.

He is currently a six time winner of the Qatar Goodwood festival as well as seeing his stock increase in the rankings amongst other active jockeys where he has since been given the privilege to ride numerous top of the line winners in countries such as France, America and Canada with varying degrees of success to his name.

After winning the Group 2 Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards Challenge Stakes back in 2022, Buick would claim his 150th winner of the entire season which may arguably rank as his most dominant.

With Buick earning the wider plaudits from fans and bookmakers alike, he has since found himself embroiled in a friendly yet highly competitive rivalry with his close friend James Doyle with the pair often clashing numerous times throughout their memorable career meetings.

His successful stints on the track has netted just under £20 million in total earnings from January 2020 up until the present day with the talented Norde aiming to continue his sheer dominant spell going into the upcoming events that are scheduled throughout 2024.

In the years following his previous successful endeavors as a jockey, Buick has captured the attention of racing fans and the national media for both his impeccable performances on the track as well as his unique story into the racing scene which is unlike most others.
